GARY BAREFOOT

Hello there!

My name is Gary Barefoot, a game designer located in the Metro Vancouver Area in BC. I’m a lifelong gamer and passionate developer with a focus on gameplay experience as an art form. I’ve been playing games since I was three years old, struggling to navigate Day of the Tentacle on my dad’s old computer, and I haven’t stopped since. I love playing and working on games that think outside the box and bend existing mechanics in exciting new ways.

Before I worked in games, I spent some time getting certified in Massage Therapy, then getting a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology. Neither career held my interest for long, and finally I decided to chase my passion and dive head first into the videogame industry.

Through my time in the industry I’ve had the opportunity to wear a few different hats, starting in QA, on to Gameplay, then Combat, then Character Design. This experience has helped me refine my goals and clearly identify what I’m most passionate about: Forging unique and memorable moment to moment experiences with a player-first mentality. There is nothing I love more than experimenting, bending tools, and exploring new avenues to Find The Fun.

I am a maker at heart, and when I can I love learning new creative skills. I’ve dabbled in cooking, writing, drawing, knitting, pottery, wood working, and blacksmithing. I love to learn from other creatives, and I find their passion infectious. I am always looking for something new to expand on my well of experiences to draw from.
